The WPC-9550 is a state of the art low background alpha/beta counting system. The system uses a proven gas flow proportional detector; a simple and efficient shield design, and a large area guard detector. The system will accommodate 50 (standard) to 100(optional) 2 inch diameter samples in standard planchets, up to 5/16 inch deep. The WPC-9550 uses an ultra-reliable bar-code reader for sample carrier identification. The bar code reader system in the WPC-9550 has proven to be much more reliable, and considerably more flexible than systems relying on punch coded carriers. The system makes bar code sample identification immediately available, without adding an expensive reader option.
The WPC-9550 uses a proven Protean manufactured pancake style gas flow proportional detector. The detector is covered with an ultra-thin (<= 80 microgram/sq. cm.) window. The window is easily replaceable from the front of the system. Cosmic event protection is provided by a large area, high efficiency gas flow guard detector. P-10 gas flow is continually monitored with Gas-PRO, based on a sensitive proportional gas flow sensor. The sensor will detect any fault in the gas flow path and halt counting until the flow stabilizes at the correct level. Gas-PRO is a critical improvement over the common pressure sensitive method of monitoring P-10 gas. Systems using a pressure sensor cannot detect broken or leaking detector windows, or a pinched gas line. Gas-PRO will detect these faults.
Aside from being reliable, readily accessible, and low cost; electronics on the WPC-9550 are highly modular. Electronic modules are separated according to their critical functions. This means that if you need to replace a guard detector amplifier, other electronics such the sample detector amplifier, bias supply, and control electronics are left untouched. Systems that rely on large, multifunction boards can leave you no option but to replace an expensive part and force you to do a complete system calibration WPC-9550 maintenance is less expensive since you replace only what you need to. WPC-9550 maintenance is faster because it is easier to troubleshoot, repair, and return to operation. The WPC-9550 has many more unique features that make it the best automatic counting system available.
