The standard alpha/beta counting system uses a gas flow proportional detector. The gas flow proportional design is well known, and for many counting applications it is the best choice. However it requires a continuous supply of counting gas, (usually P-10 - 10% methane, and 90% argon), for operation. This means that the system must be connected by a gas line to a gas supply. At some sites the requirement for a gas supply is difficult or impossible to meet. Whether it is a lack of reliable suppliers, safety considerations, or remote location, counting gas is simply not available.
Protean Instrument Corporation has one standard alpha/beta counting system that uses a non gas flow detector. The MPC-2000 is available with an optional dual scintillator detector that replaces the standard detector. Counting performance is nearly identical in both versions.
Protean Instrument Corporation has also delivered the WPC-9550 with Geiger-Mueller (GM) and zinc sulfide (ZnS) detectors. These systems are used for alpha counting (ZnS), or beta/gamma counting (GM). If you have a requirement for either detector type in an automatic system contact us with your performance, operational, and delivery requirements, and we can provide price and delivery information to you.
