The MPC-2000 is Protean Instrument Corporation's smallest and most versatile addition to an extensive line of gross alpha beta counting systems. The MPC-2000 uses critical portions of PIC's electronic and mechanical designs used in other systems. The MPC-2000 has modern control and interface options, a significantly reduced footprint, and a non-gas flow detector option.
Most laboratories today have very limited space. The MPC-2000 uses about the
same desk space as a standard vertical style PC. Three MPC 2000's will fit
in about the same footprint as it's predecessor, the MPC 9400. Two MPC-2000s
will fit in about the same table space as one of any other table top system.
The MPC-2000 control interface is based on Protean's WPC-9550. Programming,
calibrating, and counting are identical. A user trained on the MPC-2000 can
immediately operate the WPC-9550. The MPC-2000 can also be operated simultaneously
from the built-in controller and a PC running Protean software. The system
is also compatible with PIC Applications, which allows fast and simple download
of data to a PC.
The MPC-2000 can be factory equipped with a DP (ZnS+ Plastic) detector instead of a gas flow version. The DP detector is perfect when an application requires full alpha/beta counting capability at remote locations, or when the system is used very sporadically. In both cases a P-10 supply can be impractical or expensive to maintain.

MPC-2000-PC
The MPC-2000-PC is a special "blind" version of the MPC-2000. It does not have a built-in control panel and display, but is controlled from a PC running Vista 2000 software. The system uses Protean's gas flow proportional detector normally operated in windowless mode. The alpha background of the MPC-2000-PC is comparable to other Protean counting systems at 0.05 to 0.1 typical CPM. In windowless mode the MPC-2000 has alpha counting efficiency as high as any Protean system, (which is significantly higher than any others available). The MPC-2000-PC and Vista 2000 make an ideal combination for applications requiring alpha only counting with very high sensitivity. A typical application is analyzing drinking water for uranium. Since it does not have a control panel or have detector options the MPC-2000-PC is less expensive than the standard MPC-2000. Lower cost and Vista 2000's support of multiple systems from a single PC allow multi-detector alpha only systems to be configured more cost effectively than with conventional low background systems.
